Halong Bay, Vietnam continued

Halong Bay, Vietnam continued
Back on the boat again after the cave tour, we were all kind of ho-humming about the bay cruise, kind of wondering why we had spent our money for this. But we were soon to find out. We rounded a bend and we were awed by the sight of dozens of stone outcroppings in the distance, a landscape that was almost surreal. There was a haze in the air which made the scenery even more intriguing. The closer rocks were crystal clear and the ones behind were shrouded in the mist. The sun sparkled on the water as the boat glided toward the maze. In the distance we could see small houses and this turned out to be a water village of about 12-15 houses, complete with a floating school for the children. It was hard to believe people lived this way. Our guide said this was a village for fishermen and their families. Again the little families approached us to sell their wares. I wasn’t about to buy the fruit they were selling but I did give the mother a dollar. I’ve included her picture with her little daughter. Her older son was the one doing the selling. One of the passengers on the boat had a finger puppet and tried to entice the children to smile. It took some doing but finally she got a smile from the little girl.
From there we took a slow cruise back to the ship. A good time was had by all. And to top it off, a gorgeous sunset over Halong Bay, Vietnam.
