Debra Deibel and Dick Leonard
We met Debra and Dick early in the cruise, in late January. It was football season and the playoff games were on TV. It was a formal night and we were dressed in our finery but had missed dinner in order to watch the game. We were sitting at the Sports Bar and Deb and Dick sat down next to us and struck up a conversation. We’ve been friends ever since.
Debra is 56, a widow for 5 years, with no children. Her husband contracted a parasite on a trip to South America and died suddenly. She lives in Connecticut and has a very good job as a mammography consultant. She travels around the country and the world keeping people up to date on mammography. She is a Type A personality, blonde and thin and full of energy.
Dick turned 71 on March 20th. He also is a widower; his wife died of breast cancer about the same time as Deb’s husband. He lives in California. He is very tall and thin and is one of the nicest people you could ever meet. He has a strong resemblance to Dick Martin of Laugh-In. He’s a retired teacher and coach and has one daughter in California.
They met on a cruise about 2 years ago. Debra and a group of her friends organized a cruise and one of the men in the group invited his brother, Dick, from California. He and Deb hit it off right away and have been an item ever since. She travels a lot and Dick meets her at her destination. This is their first long trip together.
Debra is looking for a commitment but Dick is hesitant. It would mean one of them would have to move and neither one is willing to do that. It seems they’re at a stalemate. Deb is leaving the ship in New York and Dick is continuing on to Ft. Lauderdale so we’ll get the whole scoop during our two days at sea after New York.
